The Problem

Your data is being sold right now

Every time you apply for credit, fill in a form, or shop online, your information enters a network of data brokers that trade it without your consent. POPIA gives you the right to demand deletion — we enforce it.

Spam Calls & SMSes

Data brokers sell your phone number to debt collectors, insurance companies, and telemarketers. The calls don't stop until your data is deleted from their databases.

Credit & Financial Exposure

Your ID number, income details, and credit history sit in credit bureau databases. This data can be accessed by fraudsters and used to open accounts in your name.

People-Search Sites

Sites like WhitePages-SA and ZaDirectory publish your home address, employment history, and family connections. Anyone can look you up in seconds.

The DIY Process is Broken

You have the right to demand deletion under POPIA Section 23 — but brokers ignore emails. They only respond to formal written notices with legal weight. That's exactly what we send.

The Process

How DataRights works

We automate the entire legal process of removing your data from corporate databases — all you do is sign up.

01

Complete Your Profile

Provide your full name, ID number, phone number, and city. This is the information we use to find your profiles across data broker networks. Your data is encrypted and never shared.

02

POPIA Deletion Letters Are Sent

We generate and dispatch legally binding deletion notices on your behalf — citing POPIA Section 23. Each letter demands confirmation within 15 business days as required by law.

04

We Follow Up & Escalate if Needed

If a broker ignores or refuses the request after 20 days, we automatically send a Day-20 follow-up and (on Pro and Guardian plans) file an Information Regulator complaint on your behalf.

Monthly Rescans Keep You Clean

Data brokers re-acquire your information from public records and third-party sales. We re-scan every 30 days and send fresh deletion requests for any new data found, so you stay protected long-term.

I was getting dozens of spam calls daily. Within a month of using DataRights, the calls almost completely stopped. Incredible service — I wish I'd found it sooner.

The automated follow-ups are a game changer. I tried emailing these brokers myself before, but they only respond when the legal notices arrive. DataRights does this automatically.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know about DataRights and how we protect your privacy.

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is South Africa's data privacy law, fully effective since July 2021. Under Section 23, every South African has the right to request that any organisation delete their personal information. Organisations must comply within 15 business days. DataRights enforces this right on your behalf using legally binding formal notices.
Absolutely. We are ourselves POPIA-aware and treat your data with the highest standard of care. Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest. We only use your details to generate and send deletion notices on your behalf — we never sell, share, or monetise your personal information. You can request deletion of your DataRights account at any time.
On the Essential plan, we send a Day-20 follow-up notice reminding them of their legal obligation. On Pro and Guardian plans, we go further — we file a formal complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa on your behalf. This is the equivalent of the ICO in the UK and has the power to investigate and fine non-compliant organisations up to R10 million.
Unfortunately, data brokers re-acquire your information through ongoing data purchases from retailers, public records (like the Deeds Office and CIPC), and other brokers. Within weeks of deletion, your information can reappear. Our 30-day rescan cycle catches this and sends fresh deletion requests automatically, keeping you continuously protected.
Yes, DataRights is a subscription service billed monthly or annually. We use PayFast — South Africa's leading payment gateway — for secure card and EFT payments. You can cancel at any time from your account settings with no penalties. Annual subscribers receive the equivalent of 2 months free.
An SA ID number significantly improves our ability to locate your data at credit bureaus and public record databases. However, it is not strictly required — we can work with your full name, phone number, and city to target marketing databases and people-search sites. Providing your ID number unlocks more comprehensive coverage.
Essential covers 30 high-impact data holders — primarily credit bureaus, telecoms, and key data brokers. Pro expands this to all 50 brokers, adding reappearance monitoring, IR escalation, and submit-your-own sightings. Guardian adds dark web monitoring, family coverage, and legal demand letters for high-risk individuals.
Yes, you can cancel at any time with no early termination fees. Monthly subscribers simply don't get charged the following month. Annual subscribers can cancel and will retain access until the end of their paid period. We're confident in the value DataRights provides, which is why we make cancellation completely hassle-free.
