The Problem

Your personal information can move without you knowing

Businesses can collect, share, and reuse personal information long after the first form is filled in. POPIA gives you rights to know, object, correct, and request deletion where legally available.

Exposure discovery

DataRights scans covered broker, marketing, credit, and public-record signals so you can see where your personal information may be held and how risky that exposure is.

POPIA-backed requests

When your plan includes deletion request tools, DataRights prepares POPIA deletion and objection requests and sends them to the relevant data holder or Information Officer.

Request tracking and evidence

Every request is timestamped and tracked, so you can see what was sent, when it was sent, and whether the response is pending, refused, overdue, or confirmed.

Honest about POPIA limits

Some organisations may keep data under a lawful basis. DataRights flags those cases clearly instead of promising deletion outcomes it cannot control.

The Process

How DataRights works

Three practical steps: discover exposure, request deletion where legally available, and track what happens next.

01

Discover where your data may live

Start with a free scan and a clear exposure summary. Optional identity details can improve matching, but DataRights keeps customer-facing results masked.

Takes 2 minutes
02

Request deletion where available

Paid plans let DataRights prepare and submit POPIA requests to covered data holders on your behalf after authorisation.

Plan-based coverage
03

Track responses and evidence

Your dashboard shows sent requests, acknowledgements, refusals, overdue items, and confirmed deletion only when reviewed evidence is recorded.

Authorised requests
04

Follow up where appropriate

If a data holder ignores or refuses a request, DataRights tracks the outcome and prepares follow-up or escalation steps available on your plan.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know about DataRights and how we protect your privacy.

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is South Africa's data privacy law. Section 24 allows data subjects to request correction or deletion in appropriate circumstances. DataRights submits authorised requests on your behalf and tracks responses without overriding lawful retention obligations.
We are POPIA-aware and treat your data with a high standard of care. Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest. We only use your details to prepare and send requests on your behalf. We never sell, share, or monetise your personal information. You can request deletion of your DataRights account at any time.
On the Essential plan, we send a Day-20 follow-up notice reminding them of their legal obligation. On Pro and Guardian plans, we can prepare a formal complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa on your behalf. The regulator can investigate non-compliant organisations and issue enforcement action.
Banks, telecommunications providers, and credit bureaus are legally required to retain certain records under South African law, including FICA (5-7 years), RICA, and the National Credit Act. DataRights can remove your information from commercial data brokers, marketing lists, and lead aggregators. We cannot override statutory retention obligations, but we can ensure your data is not used for any purpose beyond what the law strictly requires.
Data holders can acquire updated information from public records, commercial sources, and other brokers. Paid plans monitor covered sources for reappearance and help you submit and track a new request when another exposure is found.
Yes, DataRights is a subscription service billed monthly or annually. We use PayFast for secure card and EFT payments in South Africa. You can cancel at any time from your account settings with no penalties. Annual subscribers receive the equivalent of 2 months free.
An SA ID number significantly improves our ability to locate your data at credit bureaus and public record databases. However, it is not strictly required. We can work with your full name, phone number, and city to target marketing databases and people-search sites. Providing your ID number unlocks more comprehensive coverage.
Essential covers the core active catalogue. Pro expands eligible broker coverage and adds reappearance monitoring, escalation review, and submit-your-own sightings. Guardian adds linked family broker-removal profiles, event-triggered rescans, and priority handling for urgent exposure events. The active catalogue changes as verified broker contacts and workflows are added.
Yes, you can cancel at any time with no early termination fees. Monthly subscribers simply don't get charged the following month. Annual subscribers can cancel and will retain access until the end of their paid period. We're confident in the value DataRights provides, which is why we make cancellation completely hassle-free.
